What Can Invisalign Do?
Invisalign is an excellent orthodontic treatment for those teens and adult patients who want to address mild to moderate alignment concerns. Some of the orthodontic issues most often addressed by Invisalign clear braces include the following:
- Crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth
- Gapped or unevenly spaced teeth
- Flawed position of the bite making chewing difficult
- Mild over, under, open, or crossbite
What Can Invisalign NOT do?
Invisalign is not an ideal treatment option for those patients who have severe orthodontic concerns. This is typically for serious bite alignment issues where the entire jaw needs to be moved. If you’ve ever seen an orthodontic patient with head gear, this advanced treatment was necessary to shift not just teeth but the entire jaw and bite position. Invisalign is not usually effective in completing these larger positional adjustments. For some patients, a compromise can be reached where more advanced treatments are completed using traditional orthodontia. Then, Invisalign is utilized to complete the treatment process, repositioning teeth within the bite.
Does Age Affect Invisalign Treatment?
Because so much of Invisalign treatment is completed by the patient, Invisalign may not be a good option for kids and younger teenagers. We typically only recommend Invisalign clear braces for those patients mature enough to dedicate the necessary time to their treatment. Compliance and consistency are essential to ensure patients achieve their desired end results and look and feel their best. While you need to remove your aligners during meals, you still need to keep track of them carefully and make sure you wear them for 20 to 22 hours each day. This can be a struggle for younger patients.
