Researchers examining the brain tissue of deceased individuals who had battled Alzheimer\u2019s found P. gingivalis, one of the main pathogens responsible for gum disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One theory from scientists is that gum inflammation caused by periodontal disease allows P. gingivalis to slip into the bloodstream and spread to vital organs, including the brain. While more research still needs to be conducted in the future, the results from the Science Advances study highlight the importance of preventing gum disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Prevent Gum Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When detected early, gum disease can usually be treated and reversed with the help of a dental professional.
