That\u2019s why we love to go on mission trips whenever we can to reach out to people who need dentistry but can\u2019t necessarily get it &#8212; like families and children in Antigua, Guatemala.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About Antigua<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antigua is a small city in southern Guatemala, and the need for quality dental care is great here and throughout the country. Some of our team members recently traveled to Antigua on a 10-day mission trip to provide dentistry, education, and tools for anyone who needed it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10 days isn\u2019t really much in the scheme of things, but we are so proud of what we were able to accomplish during our short stay in Antigua. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antigua By the Numbers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the numbers from this year\u2019s trip.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-114\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ismiledentalarts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/BD9EBDC6-DDF6-4CED-A307-D8F230280931-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"dental team cleaning a girl's teeth\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ismiledentalarts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/BD9EBDC6-DDF6-4CED-A307-D8F230280931-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.ismiledentalarts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/BD9EBDC6-DDF6-4CED-A307-D8F230280931-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ismiledentalarts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/BD9EBDC6-DDF6-4CED-A307-D8F230280931.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gave 1,021 children free dental care<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provided the equivalent of $176,460 worth of care<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communicated positive oral hygiene practices in Spanish<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Handed out dental care packages that included toothbrushes, toothpaste, and various prizes for the kids<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offered free dental care to teachers and members of law enforcement<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The people we served were so kind and gracious, and we were also so happy to receive a personal welcome from the mayor of Antigua! This trip was especially meaningful, and we can\u2019t wait to revisit the warm people of Antigua again. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helping Smiles Thrive<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of mission trips like this one is to provide basic dental services to get people out of pain if they\u2019re in it, and to help everyone be able to enjoy a clean, healthy smile. Most of the problems we see could have been easily avoided with routine dental care, like oral hygiene at home and a six month checkup and cleaning at the dentist\u2019s office. It\u2019s always a good reminder to encourage people back home to engage in the preventive dentistry that keeps smiles healthy for life. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that in mind, when was your last visit to the dentist?
